Summative time

It is said that when you are having fun time flies. The last two weeks just whizzed by. 

The last week we began exploring what is a reflection. 

We did experiments to understand if the direction of light can be changed.

Off to the field trip to the Nehru Science centre.

Summative time

As part of one of our summative tasks we had to choose one of the many experiments we had done over the course of the unit and present the same explaining how they helped make connection to the central idea.

We finally finished  putting together our poem collections for display in the poem corner.

To culminate our unit on Poetry, we organised a poetry cafe, to share some of the poems we had created.

Thank you parents, teachers and friends for encouraging us by your presence.

As we neared the close of the first semester in Grade 3 it was time for some reflections on how had we done over the last 5 months.

Thank you to all the parents who came for the PTSM and made us proud of our achievements so far.

In Math, we have been learning about elapsed time and how to read timetables.

B.U.I.L.D. time

This week it was grades 2 and 3 who had the responsibility to put together an assembly for the PYP.

Finding out

Last week we have been busy experimenting to find out more about light and shadows.

Experiment 1-Experimenting to find out the strength of the sun's rays.

Experiment 2 - Exploring rainbow reflections

We put down our predictions, observations and conclusions in an experiment sheet.

Reflecting back on our learning's from the previous unit on Civilizations, we took on to inquiring into how appropriate was the sun clock used by the Egyptians. We made our own sun dials and went out every hour to see where the shadow fell. 

Of course like all good scientists we made our predictions first about where we thought the shadow would fall.

Moving on from sun dials, we made our own clocks. We learn how to read time to the hour, half hour and to the nearest minute.

In poetry, we continued to create and share our poems.

We learnt a new tool - Onomatopoeia in poems. We began with a story of Dr Seuss - 

We tried to include this new sound tool into our poems to make them more interesting.

In ICT, we worked on our digital passports. we looked at the unit - Twalkers.
In Twalkers, students learn why it's important to avoid multitasking with a cell phone. They consider the benefits of focusing on one task at a time.

During our assembly , Grade 5 taught us some interesting things about 2D shapes. Than you Ms. Cecilia and Grade 5 it was a very interesting assembly.

We also had the smallest members of our school visit our class to share how important it is to include carrots in our meal. Thank you play group and Ms, Deepa for the lovely song.

We started the new year by setting a resolution for ourselves for the upcoming year

We set out to understand how the world works in complete darkness

Through our 4th Unit of Inquiry we set out to inquire into - How light creates shadows and reflections

Tuning in

Day 1:We began by experiencing about how helpless we are without light

Brainstorming about what are the different sources of light

Sorting these ideas into natural and man made sources of light

Day 2:  Something from home - We brought things from back home that are sources of light.

Thinking deeper to find out what we already knew about shadows

Day 3: Unfolding the main idea
We tried to make sense of the cut up central idea and put them in a sentence that made sense to us

Learning the steps for conducting an experiment and learning terms like aim. hypothesis, method,   conclusion, materials etc


Understanding  transparent, translucent and opaque objects through exploration.

 In language we are learning about poetry. We began by reading different kinds of poems and identifying the key features of poetry.




Using the acrostic poem on Shadow by Elaine Magliaro we learnt tools like about alliteration and rhyme in poems


Inspired by this poem we wrote an acrostic poem on ourselves - Grade 3

As part of our journey as budding poets , we have made our own poem book. This book will help us keep together all the tools that we learn,  that help  make a good poem and our very own poem collection.


We learnt the steps a good poet goes through to write an interesting poem.

In Math, we have been sharpening our multiplication skills. Learning out times tables till 12 by the end of January is the aim we have set out together as a class and see if we can become stars at multiplying.
