Week 16!

We began the week with the mystery bag.

We wrote clues for our friends and they had to guess what we had kept in our Mystery bags.

Happy Birthday Raanan!!!!!!!!!!!!

We studied about the artist Vincent Van Gogh and tried to understand how he had created his identity through his art work. We looked at a mix of paintings of various artists and we tried to find out which ones were painted by Van Gogh. We then concluded that he had created his identity through the colours he used, through his style of painting and the type of paintings he made.

Last week we also worked on  trying to figure out what our identity is.

We expressed ourselves as a - colour, a number, an idea, a shape, a character, a thing, a dream and a letter.  Thank you Ms.Cecilia for this lovely idea. It made us think more deeper about ourselves.

We learnt that our finger prints are the one thing that no one else can share. That is one of our unique self identities. Thank you Shawn sir for this lovely activity.

We also explored about how our culture contributes to our identities.

We may belong to different cultures and have different identities but we are still the same!

We learnt how to write an Acrostic poem.

In Math, we have been learning about division and understanding equal sharing and equal grouping. We also learnt about the inverse relationship between multiplication and division.

Back to school!

After a two week break we were back energised and ready for another exciting and busy time in school. We began our new UOI - How we express ourselves. Through this unit, we will learn about our selves and our identity. We will explore how we can build our image and personality through our behaviour and the  way we express ourselves. We will also see what are the different ways we can express ourselves.

In the first week back, our music teacher Ms. Amanda showed us a few videos of singer Hera and Adele performing. We learnt that Hera painted a tattoo on her face before every show. Her tattoo was an inspiration from the native New Zealand Maori tribe and the design of the tattoo has glimpses of the Icelandic art, the place where she was born. We discussed and saw how Hera had used the tattoo to build her image in public and thereby creating an identity for herself.  We then compared Hera with Adele who didn't have any such thing. Adele had created her identity using her voice modulation techniques. We reflected on our learning and designed a tattoo for ourselves. The one that we would like to show our identity with.

Ansel Adams
“When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.”

We explored the art work of Van Gogh with Shawn sir.

If you want to read and you want to draw, that helps you to express yourself.  --- Quentin Blake

In music class we learnt how to listen to a track and add our own chords to it.

We deciphered the central idea. We used the dictionary to look up the meanings of the words.

We expressed our understanding of the Math concepts we have learnt so far in Grade 3 through our words and illustrations. We have also began the concept of multiplication.

Happy Diwali!

What a busy week the last week before the Diwali break has been. It whizzed by with a blink of the eye.

This week we wrapped up our projects. Painstakingly working at adding in the last final details.

Finally completed! Phew! We are extremely proud of the work we have done.

We invited our friends and teachers in Edubridge to share our learning with them.

While working on these projects so diligently we realised we have been........

Siya - I have been a 'Reflective learner' as I thought back on what I had researched, planned my project and made a model on Ancient Greek civilization.

Raanan - I have been a 'Balanced learner' as I used my work time wisely and completed my project in the time Ms. gave us.

Jason - I have been a 'Risk taker' as I tried to make the shaduf on my own even though it was very difficult for me. I used different materials to complete my project.
Nishka - I have been a 'Communicator' as I shared my ideas and all that I have learned about Indus Valley with all my classmates and  friends from other grades.

Nirja - I have been an 'Inquirer' as I have been asking a lot of questions to understand the things that we have been researching about.

In Math, we explored the concept of capacity. We learnt that 1000 ml = 1 litre.
Does anyone want to know how many litres make a gallon? Ask our young curious learners.

We had  a surprise visit by Mick sir to teach us about sequences. It was so much fun and now we know that a sequence is a list of numbers that follow a pattern. Thank you Mick sir for taking time out and visiting our class. We completely enjoyed it. You make us want more and more of Math.

We began our Diwali break with sweet memories of spending time making diyas and rangolis with our loving Grandparents. Thank you to all the granny's and grandpas for making our Diwali celebration so special.
                                                                     We love you so much!!!!!

Thank you Ms. Nirmala and Ms. Siya for telling us why Diwali is celebrated.
