Outbound Influx

WHAT AN ADVENTURE!!!!!

Adventuresome.....gutsy....lion hearted.....fearless.....adventurous......daredevils.....daring.....on the move......traveling......hiking.....joyous.....blissful.....walking on cloud nine.....considerate......are some of the words that begin to describe the last week.

Morning of 9th of February, students of Grades 3,4 & 5 were fired up to set off for the four day camp to YMCA camp at Nilshi.

After a 5 hour journey we were still high on energy!!!!

We met Andre sir, who explained us the about the do's and don'ts of being safe.

As soon as we settled in, off we went to play 'Patax'. Through this game we learnt to be quick.....alert and work as a team.

Our well mannered students went wild with the 'Wild berries.'

Race to the trampoline.......

Trampoline time....

Next, our campers got a lesson on how to tie knots that help when trekking outside.

Just before dinner, we decided to go for a night trek out on the camp site.

Exhausted but full of zest, we retired to our cabin for a well deserved rest.

The next morning, Eduites were given a mission to 'Save the World.'
This mission helped us become more observant, self controlled, quick, alert and most important a good listener.

After saving the world, it was time to learn some archery.

Watch the young archers in action -

After a session of archery off we headed to the lake to cool off. We did some rafting and then took a dip in the lake.

At night, we set up the barbecue and roasted some corn and marshmallows.

End of day two

As the sun for the 3rd day rose, our Eduietes rose for an early morning trek.

The trek couldn't take the steam out of  us. We were all ready to try our hands at rock climbing and some tent pitching.

It was time to put out culinary skills to test.
BHEL TIME!!!

We played a game of shapes. This simple game of shapes helped us shape our visual thinking, abstract thinking, team building and the most important of all our PATIENCE levels.

Next we played a game - "Minefiled"
This game helped us focus on our listening and speaking skills. The most important thing it taught us was trusting our team members and their directions.

Our last night, was as eventful and fun as all the other times. We had a campfire around which we played, danced, sang and mimicked our teachers.

We lit 'wish lanterns' and am sure most of us wished the camp would not end here!!!!!

Before we started our return journey we packed and returned all the things lent to us.

A few special moments....

Peeling garlic for the barbecue

Washing our own plates and spoons

As all good things come to end, it was time for us to come back home.
On the way back.....

A big Thank you to Ms.. Cecilia and Ms. Disha for helping capture these lovely moments.

Can I change your mind?

Cre-ad-tivity

We began this week by presenting our cereal box ads that we had been working on.

To inquire further into how messages are manipulated we began with critical evaluation of ads. We looked at ads and some of the things we tried to find out were -
  • Who made the ad?
  • What messages are conveyed. What techniques have been used?
  • Is this fact, opinion or something else?
  • What kind of actions I will take in response to the message?

We moved on to evaluating an ad given to us. We looked at that ad as a group and then created another ad for the same product keeping in mind the goods and the bad of advertising.

Once our advertisement were ready we moved on to critically evaluating them. We looked at the ads made by our friends and critically assessed them. We soon realized its not easy convincing people of your opinions!!!

In Language, we have been looking at persuasion in advertisements. We created our own ads to persuade the audience to buy our product that we invented.

In Math, we have been learning about equivalent fractions.

B.U.I.L.D time

We took time out to learn more about the place we are going to be visiting next week. We had a talk form our camp leader Mr Andre to clear any doubts we had. We were reflective and thought about what we are expecting to see and experience on the trip.

Stay tuned for our trip scrap book with our pre trip and post trip reflection coming up soon!!!!.

We are now all set for the camping experience. Nilshi ........here we come!!!!!!

PTSMs

We began the week by reviewing cereal boxes. We discussed and shared
  • What was the target audience for a particular box of cereal? Why did we think so?
  • What marketing techniques are used to sell this cereal to that target group?
  • What images or special offers are included on the box of cereal that might be appealing to consumers?

Cre - ad - tivity!

We then put our own creativity to test. We worked on creating an ad for a cereal box. Our task was to identify the target audience, the special ingredients and the marketing techniques that we would use to sell our cereal boxes.

Stay tuned to see how we convinced the audience that our cereal was the best!!!

In Language, we have been busy honing our persuasive writing skills. We wrote a letter to our school principal trying to persuade him to build a swimming pool and start gymnastics as an extra curricular activity for students for next year.

In Math, we have been learning how to compare fractions.

Last but not the least, we would like to thank all the parents for coming for the PTSMs. We had a lovely time sharing and discussing our learning. Thank you for helping us think of how we could work on our challenges and overcome them. We truly appreciate your support!!!
