The first week journey of the Fantabulous Fourteen!!
We began our year by some mindful moments. We exercised and stretched to shake the vacation sillies away. The first day we spent understanding the class routines and expectations.
Class Slogan
We also created a slogan to represent the fantabulous fourteen. We each have a word to remember from the slogan. We use this slogan to make sure we are all there when we are going or returning from somewhere as a class. Our special way of taking attendance!!!
"We are the best learners so lets learn to enjoy and have some happy times"
Our expectations for the year
We had six questions, all having to do with how to make our classroom and ourselves function to the highest level, on six pieces of chart paper. Students, in groups of three, spent two minutes at each chart, collaborating and responding to each question. After all visited each chart paper station, we hung all of the charts up and we discussed each answer and noticed some very interesting trends.
Essential Agreements
Taking on from the previous days brain storming, we spent some time building our class essential agreements. First, we sat and wrote down five agreements that we as individuals thought were important for the smooth functioning of our class.
Once we had put in some thought ourselves, we shared the same with one of our class mates. We discussed and agreed on the four most important.

Once we had agreed with our partners we clubbed with another pair and then discussed ...... heard and finally consented on the 3 most important.
Finally we all got together as a class to share and finalise our class essential agreements.
Chemistry Crystal letters
Since we aim to be inquiring risk takers who are curious and enthusiastic to find out about the world around us, we began our school year with a fun science experiment.
We made our letter initials with pipe cleaners. Suspended them in borax solution.......we predicted what would happen next.

Like all good scientists do , we noted the materials we had used, the method we followed and our predictions.
We left them there overnight and this is what we discovered the next morning..... to our amazement none of our predictions had come out right.
A letter to ourselves
We wrote a letter to ourselves to read at the end of the year. We will look back at the year and reflect on how much we have changed or achieved in the past year in the last week of the school.
Unlocking ourselves
The past week we also spent understanding the eight key concepts in depth. As we got more and more familiar with them we used the key concepts to unlock our selves.
30 Book Challenge
This year we have taken up the goal of becoming avid readers. To achieve that we have been challenged to complete reading 30 books as per our reading levels. To help us achieve that we have 10 minutes of SSR (silent sustained reading) time in our class everyday.
