Happy Children's day!!!

Back with a  bang!!!

Tuning in - Where we are in Place and Time

We began our inquiry into our 3rd UOI by looking at different books to see if we found anything that we had seen before or had visited. We shared with our friends the different familiar things that we spotted in the books.

Sorting pictures into different categories made us realize that some of the practices we have in present times existed in the olden days too.

Brainstorming  and sharing our views on
We know something is ancient is .....

People in the past lived.....

Civilization means....

Unfolding the central idea......

Moving from near to far.....

To understand what a civilization means we worked from where we live ...to cities...to states....to countries/......to continents....

Identifying the key elements for this UOI

We watched a video on  - History of  civilization through which we understood the characteristics that make up a civilization.

We began reading - the dairy of the lost Tutankhamen mummy.
Stay tuned to know more about the mysteries of the ancient world as we unwind them in Grade 3.

As this unit is all about looking at information available from the past and what we can learn about the olden days,  in ICT  we are learning about what information is appropriate to share ad when . We also learnt that nothing is really private and once put online ....remains there somewhere.

In Math , we are going to be learning about shapes over the next few weeks. We began by going on a shape hunt and clicking picture of 2D and 3D things we found  around the school.

We then came back and uploaded our pictures to Voicethread and shared why we thought the shape was 2D or 3D.

Dhyey and Prisha

Swaraj, Sadaf and Drishti

We understood what are polygons.

Learning the names and properties of basic 2D shapes.

Using 2D shapes to create something.

We visited the Grade 5 classroom to learn more about migration. What makes people migrate - is it risk, opportunity or challenge ? Thank you Ms. Cecilia and Grade 5 , it was a wonderful learning opportunity.

Congratulations to Meeshaa for bagging the budding speller certificate. Well done!!

21 oh November is celebrated as Universal Children's day. We took this opportunity to organize a small celebration for our students. Thank you to all the teachers and friends from Grades 1 - 5 for making this day so special and celebrating children. May the child within us always remain alive.

Happy Diwali!!!!!!!

Summative week

As technology is now a big art of our lives we thought we could have one of our summative tasks using  an online medium. We started our week with a quiz on kahoot.it. It was challenging and fun.

You can take the quiz here - tiny creatures

Grade 3 Creature Museum

As part of our summative assignment we had to design our own creature. We had to think about its appearance, food habits, adaptations, usefulness to the environment, the changes they go through in their life span etc.

Step 1: Planning and drawing our creature

Step 2: Creating our creatures with clay

Step 3: Preparing our presentations

Step 4: Presenting our presentations

Step 5: Assessing our peers

As part of our end of the unit celebration, we invited our parents in to share our learning and take a gallery walk to see all that we had done through the unit..

Are you smarter than the third graders????

Our parents were risk takers and took the same quiz that we took as part of our summative.
Thank you for your constant support.

In Math, we worked on looking at reflective summary.

We reflected on our learner profiles that we developed through this unit.

In our reading groups, we enacted the story we read to display our comprehension skills.

We ended our week with a small celebration for Diwali.

Felicitating our helping staff. Our silent support without which we could not function so smoothly. Thank you to all the MYP students for putting up such a lovely show for everyone.

Making Diwali decorations.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy Diwali !!!!!

Making conclusions

It is not enough to be busy.
So are the ants.
The question is : What are we busy about?
 - Henry David Thoreau

We started the week by understanding the function of a non fictions book. We compared  fiction and a non fiction book and looked at how the structure of the book changes depending on the purpose it serves.

After learning about the non fiction book, we worked and put together the contents page, the glossary, index, summary, cover page, title etc for our very own non fiction book on tiny creatures. We named our book MINI BEASTS.

Some of us are so excited about our book , we decided to research about more creatures over the weekend and add more pages to our book.

We have been making connections between all the research and presentations we have been seeing. We reflected on how the tiny creatures are helpful to us. We reflected on what are some of the practices we follow that harm these creatures even tough they are so important and useful to us.

We decided to make leaflets to spread more awareness about our responsibilities towards the tiny creatures and the changes we need to make to share the planet with them fairly.

Our completed leaflets

Symmetry in insects

We started with understanding what is  line of symmetry. What is the function of a LOS.
