Week 23

"How did it get late so soon? " So rightfully said by Dr Suess. We ended the last week of the first month of the year having so much fun. We began the week by completing our reports on the library. We then got set to plan our interviews. We brainstormed what a good interview looks like and accordingly we set to work. We planned our interviews.....made a list of all the questions we wanted to ask keeping in mind the aim of the interview.

We interviewed and recorded all that they said. The following week we will work on presenting the information to our friends.

In Math, we learnt about equivalent fractions. We explored that the fractions that have the same value but look different are called equivalent fractions.

We also had some fun learning fun math facts about ourselves.

 

                             We measured each other height and found out how tall we were.

How we organize ourselves

Thank you to all the parents for the positive response and being so accommodating to the rescheduled PTM slots.

This week, we began by understanding what a mission is. We discussed about what our school mission statement says and then looked at the IB mission statement and highlighted what was common between the two.

                              We made flow charts to understand how our school is organised.

To understand further how the different departments in the school work together to achieve our school mission, we interviewed Ms. Nirmala our library co coordinator. We learnt how our school library is organised using the Dewey Decimal system. Ms. Nirmala also showed us the process of how a book is numbered ....stamped....cataloged.... and then finally shelved. 

Our school Library provides information, inculcates ideas, and develops knowledge that is so
essential to functioning successfully in today’s information and knowledge based society. It is
fundamental to our school library to equip students with life long learning skills and develop in them
creative thinking and imagination, and enabling them to live as ideal and responsible citizens. This is what we at  Edubridge want to achieve for our students, and our librarian Ms. Nirmala is helping us achieve it.
We are now working on writing a report to present all this information that Ms. Nirmala has given us.

We also made a graph and sorted the pictures of the various people in school that help us. Some of them teach us, some keep us safe and some of them make sure all is clean for us.

                  In Math, we have began working with fractions. We have learnt what a proper, improper

and mixed fraction is.

Getting ready to start our new unit - How we organise ourselves!

This week we began working on our new UOI under the theme - How we organise ourselves. Under this unit we will be looking at how in a workplace different people share different responsibility toward a common purpose.

We began with a game that required the students to work as a team.

We faced problems, but we found out a solution to it.....and finally we did achieve our goal.

Post the game we reflected on what made them succeed in their task.

Post this activity we moved on to thinking what id co operation. What does it look like.....what dos it feel like......what does it sound like.

We discussed the same in our group and made a Y chart on the same.

As this unit is going to be all about working in groups, we got into groups again..... discussed.....shared what we though about - connection /importance of co operation between colleagues.

In Language, we are learning how to write a non chronological report. We looked at different report samples and learnt the different features of a non chronological report.

    

In Math, we have been learning about doubles and near doubles of numbers.  Stay tuned for the Monsters NNRSJ band coming soon to rock you with their band!!

Our first Sports day at EBIS !

The spirits on our first EIS sports day were definitely high! We began with the lovely opening dance put together by Ms. Abigail. Thank you, Ms. Abigail for putting together this simple and lovely dance for us.

Welcome 2014

Its just unbelievable how the time has just flown by. We have finished five months in school already, Wow! Time does fly when you are having fun. The last week, before the winter break, school has been busy and fun. We worked hard at completing our stories. We are on the road to becoming successful and famous authors. We are proud of our story books.

We finished our unit by reflecting on what all our friends, teachers, and relatives had to say about us. It was wonderful to hear all our close ones talk about us and share what they think about us. It made us realise what kind of an image we have created for ourselves, through our behaviour and conduct. Thank you to everyone who removed time for us. We truly appreciate it.

We enjoyed listening to our friends from Grade 5 share about what they had learned during their unit. Thank you for inviting us Grade 5. We now understand the learner profiles even more better.

For Grade 3’s UOI - How We Express Ourselves we decided to bring out the X-Factor in each student.

We started by looking at and discussing a singer called Hera who always performs with a unique design painted on her face.We discussed why she and many other singers create an image to be remembered by. In one lesson Ms Amanda performed a song at the piano demonstrating how she expresses herself through a sad sounding song.

After this each student had to pick a song they identified with and rehearse it in their own time and in class. Each student was interviewed, saying why they had chosen that particular song and what it meant for them.
Each student had to think carefully about what image they wanted to portray to the audience, eg how they were to dress, make-up and other accessories. They also practiced putting expression into their performance of the song. The had to think about how they wanted to move, what their facial expressions might be, how they were to connect with their audience.

The final performance was in front of the whole PYP and it was a huge success! See for yourself……...

Shawn sir turned out to be our 'Secret Santa' who gifted Grade 3 with a surprise.

Thank you Shawn Sir!

As Christmas is a time of giving and sharing. All the students from Grade 1 - 5 turned secret Santa's for the children of out helping staff. We bought gifts and wrapped them and gifted it to the didi's and bhaiyas's. It was truly a wonderful experience.

Having fun wrapping the gifts with our friends from grade 1. 4 and 5.

Time to be the secret Santa's.
